From skillful, beautiful engravings, to real gold plate highlights on most models, trumpets by the end of the 1920s were made to be SEEN and heard, and manufacturers dolled them up accordingly. After the 1929 crash, trumpets would take a cost cutting, manufacture efficient approach for many years (with exceptions of course)
In the 1920s, The evolution of Jazz was in full swing, marching bands were in stiff competition with each other, and players demanded horns not just able to handle technical pieces from the likes of Clark and Arban, but to play them with finesse and resonance. Manufacture was ramped up by the end of the decade, such that more trumpets were produced in 1929 than the previous 4 years combined.
Aside from the generous platings of gold and silver, much of which has stood the test of time 100 years later, the brass, copper, nickel used in these horns, has also withstood time better than horns that are a fraction of their age. After restoration, these horns are beautiful and wonderful players, Many still holding popping compression
